Itinerary for families from Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, 4 days and 3 nights

Day 1 – Departure from the hamlet Les Fardelay – night at the Mountain Hut of Les Fonts
Follow the path going to the Giffre des Fonts. Cross the bridge of the “Creux du Oua”. The path arrives to the clearing of Pelly de Serai and the clearing Celière. The path overlooks the canyon until a bridge from which you’ll get to the refuge and the pasture of the Fonts.
Ascending elevation: +328m.
Length: 1h15
Night at the mountain hut of Les Fonts – elevation: 1380m.

Day 2 – Departure from Les Fonts – Lake Anterne – Mountaun Hut Alfred Wills
Leave the mountain hut of Les Fonts, cross the Mitaines bridge, once at the Mountain Hut Alfred Wills continue to the Lake Anterne (Lac d’Anterne). Go back to the mountain hut Alfred Wills by the same path.
Length: 4 hours between the mountain hut of Les Fonts and the Lake Anterne + 1 hour to go back to the mountain hut Alfred Wills from the Lake Anterne.
Night at the mountain hut Alfred Wills – elevation: 1801m.

Day 3 – Departure from the mountain hut Alfred Wills – Night at the mountain hut of Sales
Departure from the mountain hut Alfred Wills, collet d’Anterne and the waterfalls La Pleureuse and La Sauffaz. Follow the signs “Refuge de Sales”.
Descent: -380m / Ascending elevation: +440m
Length: 2 hours and a half.
Difficulty: after the first descent – which is the first step of the hike – it isn’t always easy to go up the mountain so take a break before going up!
Night at the mountain hut of Sales – elevation: 1870m.

Day 4 – Departure from mountain hut of Sales – Return to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval via the Rouget waterfall.
Leave the mountain hut of Sales, take the same path as the previous day, follow the GR5 until the Lignon carpark. From there follow the sign “Cascade du Rouget” or “Fardelays” if you want to arrive quicker.
Descent: -1070m.
Length: between 2 hours and 2 hours and a half.

Itinarary for experienced hikers, departure from Passy, 5 days and 4 nights

Day 1: departure from Plaine-Joux, walking up to the Ayères d’en haut, path of the Dérochoir, walking down to the mountain hut of Sales.
Ascending elevation: +870m – Descent: -350m.
Length: 3 hours and a half
Difficulty: long walk with direct sunlight. Falling rocks can occure on the path of the Dérochoir; be very careful!
Night at the mountain hut of Sales – elevation: 1870m.

Day 2: Departure from the mountain hut of Sales, walk towards the chalets de Foges, night at the gîte de Gers.
Ascending elevation: +250m / descent: -610m.
Length: 3 hours
Night at the gîte de Gers – elevation: 1540m.

Day 3: Departure from the gîte de Gers, walking down to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval via the waterfall du Rouget, night at the mountain hut of Les Fonts.
Ascending elevation: +600m / Descent: -770m.
Length: 4 hours
Night at the mountain hut of Les Fonts – elevation 1380m.

Day 4: Departure from the mountain hut Les fonts, walking up to the lake and col d’Anterne, night at the mountain hut Moëde-Anterne.
Suggestion: have lunch at the mountain hut of Alfred Wills – elevation 1810m.
Ascending elevation: +890m / Descent: -260m.
Length: 4 hours and a half
Difficulty: Steep path after the mountain hut of Alfred Wills, take your time.
Night at the mountain Hut Moëde-Anterne – elevation: 2000m.

Day 5: Departure from the mountain hut Moëde-Anterne, walk to the lake of Pormenaz or take the All-Terrain-Vehicule road to go back to Plaine-Joux.
Descent: -630m
Length: 2 hours and a half
Difficulty: the path of La Chorde of you decide to walk via the Lake of Pormenaz. The path is equiped with handrails and ladders for your safety.
