Via Ferrata originated
in Italy, and are routes across the rock faces
equipped with cables and ladders, monkey bridges
and passages that are high up and sometimes a
little acrobatic.
History of Via Ferrata
Via Ferrata began in the Italian dolomites
during the First World War with the sole purpose
of transporting artillery and soldiers.
Nowadays they are a way of introducing hikers
to the rock-climbers terrain. This is a new fun
mountain sport, which has managed to establish
itself half-way between rock-climbing and hiking.
